Soccer World Cup 2006, Germany.....
History repeats itself & the team who plays better than others always win.....as after 24 years Italy has lifted The FIFA soccer world cup 2006 (Germany), trophy for fourth time with the mesmerising touch of its captain & one of the best defender of the world, Fabio Cannavaro, short in height, large in stature throughout the tournament.....
This time again the grand finale went in penalty shoot out which reminded me the finale of 1994, Italy versus Brazil (Brazil won penaly by 4-3), Aah! Baggio missed that tropy with an abominable kick which not only made Italy lose world cup but also ruined Baggio's career. Though Baggio was the man who took Italy in the finale & scarcely one thought that he would miss the penalty. But that was what we known as luck,fate,pressure,uncertainty etc...but this time Italians have committed no mistake and broke the dream of magical midfielder & french captain Zizou who stunned every soccer lover by his insanity at ground, as well as whole french team by 5-3 in penalty shoot out. Again Brazil & England's hardluck against France since 1958 and Penalty shoot out respectively in world cup remain there.....
This was the world cup, full of surprises & disappointments, fans were full of hopes when The first kick of World Cup was kicked off by Costa rica against Germany, the host, on June 9.
I have enjoyed this world cup a lot & there were also cheering and disappointing moments for me , better to say more disappointing momentns than that of cheering.....
The order of my favourates was Brazil, Argentina, Italy & England....finaly Italy has won which was the most cheerful moments while lose of Argentina against Germany in quarters was the most painful moment for me....
In an expected manner, this world cup also have some memorable & some forgettable moments and performance....Michael Owen's injury in the real start of battle for trophy, 2-0 lose of Czech republic against Ghana in league round, Argentina's goalkeeper's injury in quarters against Germans, Rooney's red card and Beckham's injury in semis, Brazil's faded performance, Lampard's bad performance, Gerrard and cambiassos's missed penalty kicks and above all, by contrast, Ronaldinho's flop show in this world cup....are some of the disappointing moments for me....
The quality of refereeing in this tournament was also horrible, specialy by Russian referee Ivanov in the Portugal versus Holland quarters, in which 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards were shown by the referee.....another terrible moment was when English referee Graham Poll, who was looking as referee for grand finale, mistakenly showed 3 yellows to a croatian player before sending him off the ground against aussies.....
The strategy and tactics by the Argentina's coach Pekerman also stunned me when he took off playmaker Riquelme after striker Crespo and, having made all 3 changes because of an injury to the goal keeper, wasn't able to use talented young player Messi, who sat on the bench, watching his team mates lose.....
Although Brazilian star striker Ronaldo became the world cup's leading all time scorer with 15 goals, yet the Brazilians failed to reach the semis since 1990....
But Canvarro, goalkeeper Buffon and Zizou's performance in this world cup, Argentina's 24 passes move to goal against Serbia & Montenegro & Brazil's 25 passes move to goal against Ghana in pre-quarters, Beckham's goal on direct free kick after 17 matches are some of memorable moments of this football world cup....
At the same, some of the famous faces of the soccer world have taken retirement after this battle of supremacy in football....Brazil's Roberto Carlos, Portugal's Luis Figo, German wall Oliver Kahn, France's Zidane, Italy's Totti are just name of few players...
Surely we would be unable to see some of our favorate players in the next world cup 2010, South Africa but hoping young talented players like Podolski, Messi, Cicinho and many more will show their magic in South Africa in 2010.....
I know its long time to go for 2010, but my wait for next world cup has been started from yesterday night just after when Grosso kicked the winning penalty.....
